Hotelier’s
Report Card Is your hardware vendor helping you avoid costly mistakes? |
| AutoClerk’s goal is for your property to have a rock solid AutoClerk installation that lasts for years to come. AutoClerk’s specs are not arbitrary, but the result of years of in-the-field experience doing hundreds of installations learning what works well in the long term and what does not. Newer versions of Microsoft Windows ® have made great improvements in security, tcp/ip networking and overall stability. To ensure all AutoClerk functions and capabilities perform as specified, please observe the following guidelines: Make sure your vendor follows best practices with regards to network security and has, at minimum, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification. |
| AutoClerk technicians will NOT install AutoClerk software on computers that do not meet AutoClerk’s specifications, which can delay an installation and increase costs. To avoid costly repairs and delays PLEASE BE ABSOLUTELY SURE your computer equipment vendor reads and follows AutoClerk’s specifications, and you order the correct equipment from your vendor, and your vendor delivers and properly installs the equipment you ordered. If your vendor fails to follow AutoClerk’s specs then you can expect the following common mistakes: |
| ____ 1) | Vendor does not install the correct Network Interface Card (NIC). Every PC MUST have a 3Com, Intel, or Broadcom 100mb/sec or Gigabit NIC. Other NICs have been known to cause data corruption. |
| ____ 2) | Vendor does not install an internal Iomega Zip drive when AutoClerk IP Vault, an internet broadband data backup service, is not used for night audit backups. AutoClerk IP Vault MUST be used OR station #1 MUST have an internal Iomega Zip drive. |
| ____ 3) | Vendor installs wrong modem. If Shift4, a payment gateway, is used then only the server must have a Shift4 compatible modem if dial backup support is desired. If Shift4 is not used then every PC used for guest credit card authorizations MUST be connected to an EXTERNAL US Robotics Sportster 33.6K or 56K modem via a RS232C serial port. |
| ____ 4) | Vendor installs wrong Operating System (OS). Every workstation PC must have Windows XP-Professional, NOT XP-Home OS or WINDOWS VISTA OS. XP-Home is not intended for networking or business grade applications such as AutoClerk. Dedicated server PCs ( RECOMMENDED for all installations in order to improve data security) are required for networks of three or more stations and must have either Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2000 or, if three or fewer PCs, Windows XP-Pro OS. |
| ____ 5) | Vendor installs wrong serial port expanders on the server or other PCs. The only acceptable serial port extenders are the Digiboard AccelePort Xr920 or the Ionetworks Edgeport USB to multi port RS232C. |
| ____ 6) | Vendor does not install PC Anywhere (PCA). Every computer must have a full version (host & remote) of PCA version 11.0 or higher installed. Without PCA AutoClerk technicians cannot remotely install or maintain AutoClerk. |
| _____ 7) | Vendor sells you a PC more suited for home use rather than business use. A home PC may save you a few hundred dollars in the initial purchase of the PC, but ultimately cost you far more money in lost productivity and lost data because of constant problems. |
